Objects

Todays task in our objects session with Andy was:
To make 2 photographs of shoes not on my feet one with a full depth of field and one with a reduced depth of field.

This image is my shallow depth of field example Shallow depth of field is when the camera is focused on one object in the foreground and the background of the image is blurred or has "bokeh". It was taken outside of the Beacon Centre at Blackburn College, using a Nikon D3200 on aperture priority to get a nice "Bokeh" effect.
I held my shoe up to get the building and sky in the background of my image. I really like Images with a Shallow depth of field because the Bokeh is quite appealing to me.

This image is my Large depth of field image

Sensor Cleaning.
Sensors need regular cleaning to stop smudges and smear appearing on images, over time from the shutter opening and closing they can become dirty.
To check if the cameras internal sensor is dirty you must take a photograph of a white surface. The image I took is slightly purple because I had forgotten to change the white balance settings on my camera before taking the image.

After taking the image, upload it into photoshop and then go to image > auto contrast.
The auto contrast will bring out the darker patches in the image so you can see the dirt on the sensor.

Objects 2.

For objects 2 we were given the brief to take commercial style advertising images of some glass perfume/aftershave bottles in the using  different studio lighting techniques techniques.

Studio.
1.

(Research unknown photographer)
* for my research I have looked at various different perfume adverts and the ways they are photographed. In this image the photographer uses the rule of 3rds and places the bottle in one third of the image, allowing space for logos/text.

 2.
(Research unknown photographer)
*in this advertisement the photographer has used a lot of reflection in the image, it looks as if they have used black card to highlight the edges of the glass I will use reflection in my images to light the glass on the bottles.

In this image I used a studio flash light on a stand with a honey comb attachment to light the bottle. For composition I used the rule of 3rds and put the bottle in one 3rd of the image leaving a space for logos/advertisements or models, as this I what I found when researching advertisment images.

with this image i played a little on the name of the perfume putting a 'cold' bottle in the reflection of the bottle turning it blue in photoshop.
Image > adjustments > hue and saturation

The bottle is on a reflective surface which creates a reflection underneath, I thought the red reflection took away from the colour of the bottle itself so i changed it to black and white using photoshop
Image > adjustments > black and white.

Historical.

(research unknown photographer)
What I have learnt about historical object photography is that it is usually photographed as if it were being displayed. on a plain white background in a "forensic type way" this is probably to concentrate on the object and draw the view to think about the story behind it.

For my historical I used a medal I was given for winning a race during the queens golden jubilee when i was 9 years old. The medal Is gold and slightly rusted, I used a soft light to just highlight
the embossed areas on the medal, I used a shallow depth of field so that the ribbion on the medal appears to disolve into the background.

Here I changed the whole image to black and white except the ribbon as I wanted to give the image an old historical feel.

Macro.

Macro photography is usually for photographing small animals/insects and foods, upon trying to work out how they have done this. I think the photographer has put the cherry in a glass of carbonated water/lemonade to get the bubbles on the cherry, then lit the image from below to catch the edges of the bubbles.
A lot of macro lighting is from below I found in my research.

For macro I decided to use an object that means something to me, which is this spongebob keyring my dad gave me, I used a flash unit with soft box attachment underneath the backdrop to light the keyring softly. In photoshop after I pumped up the vibrance and contrast to add a cartoony look to it as spongebob is a cartoon.
